Dear Sir,
Thank you for your letter of 25th January concerning Severn Trent’s recent planning application which I have circulated at the February meeting of the Trentham South Residents’ Association.
Several Residents of the Association attended the Planning Committee meeting and submitted a critique of the planning application (a copy of which was posted to your office in Fenton). As you will have noticed in our critique, the Severn Trent application was riddled with errors and misinformation. Nevertheless, as you know, the application was passed subject to a traffic management plan (TMP).
We were heartened that blanket approval was not given and have asked for details of the TMP – its operation and monitoring. Some of the excesses outlined in our Critique – the number of vehicles, the breach of licensing hours, the noise pollution etc. may thereby be controlled.
At the hearing, Councillors questioned the use of ‘the southern route’ (entering/leaving the site and heading south to the A34 through Barlaston) to alleviate the congestion on Barlaston Old Road. They were told that the southern route was unsuitable because it went down Tittensor Road, a very narrow road. This is totally inaccurate. The southern route uses the purpose built Meaford Road as its access to the A34. Our Residents would strenuously endorse the use of the southern route for all construction traffic as an essential part of the TMP. Currently we have a 44 ton HGV every 6 minutes, plus related ST vehicles, travelling down BOR Monday through Saturday. We can not have construction traffic – an additional 1000 heavy goods vehicles per month added to an already intolerable volume.

We were heartened to hear that you are committed to find a solution to help our community. We would welcome your involvement in the development of the TMP to mitigate against the detrimental effects of this project; and we would also welcome your suggestions on how the TMP can be monitored.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Sheila Weightman
Chair, Trentham South Residents’ Association
